So last time we dug into a speed reading and evaluating awareness system paper fairly well. This time we'll focus on situation awareness proper, and on evaluation of textual summaries -- two papers we didn't get to last time. Also, the awareness system was really about theory rather than practice, so let's read a more practical paper on that, if time allows:
- Endsley, M.R. (1995). Measurement of situation awareness in dynamic systems.
Human Factors, 37, 1, 65-84.
- Lin, C. and Hovy, E. 2003. Automatic evaluation of summaries using N-gram co-occurrence statistics. Proc. Association For Computational Linguistics on Human Language Technology - Volume 1, 71-78.
- McCrickard, D. S., Catrambone, R., Chewar, C. M., and Stasko, J. T. 2003. Establishing tradeoffs that leverage attention for utility: empirically evaluating information display in notification systems. Int. J. Hum.-Comput. Stud. 58, 5 (May. 2003), 547-582.
